When publisher emeritus Howard Christensen founded Broadcast Dialogue in 1992, he saw the need – in a quickly evolving industry where talent, sales and other staff made frequent moves – to create a publication that would both inform and create a sense of community within the industry.
The Broadcast Dialogue Canadian Radio Awards – which we’ve dubbed “The Howards” – honour that legacy. Launched in 2020, in a particularly challenging year for Canadian Radio, The Howards aim to recognize the great radio borne of those challenges from community service initiatives to the feats of engineering that saw thousands of staff transition to work from home.
The awards recognize those both in front of the mic and behind-the-scenes, across multiple categories, from news to sales and programming. The most compelling and creative performances and initiatives are recognized, judged by a jury of past and present industry professionals.
