2023 Broadcast Dialogue – Canadian Radio Awards

Jax Irwin

Originally from Canada’s East Coast, radio and television host Jax Irwin has called Toronto home for nearly a decade. A proud alumni of NSCC’s RTA program, Jax has been heard across the country on AC & CHR stations – giving you entertainment updates or interviewing some of music’s biggest names.

After landing the Midday Host position on KiSS 92.5, Jax relocated to Ontario in 2015. From there she moved on to her most recent role as Morning Co-Host on 99.9 Virgin Radio Toronto, which wrapped up in June 2023. As a member of and advocate to the LGBTQ2S+ community, Irwin uses her on-air platforms to advocate for important issues in her city and beyond. With regular appearances on The Social, Your Morning, CTV News and more, Irwin has developed a notable brand; both on-screen and on the air. Beyond radio and television, Jax is well known for her digital media – using a unique combination of heart and humour to make her Instagram and TikTok followers take life a little less seriously.

Kat Carter

Early in her career, Kat Carter spent a decade in the radio industry as a music director and on-air personality, working at stations including Z95.3 and Virgin Radio in Vancouver and CHUM-FM in Toronto. In 2019, Kat founded The Radio Nerd, an online store & social media community for “lovers of all things radio.” Kat currently resides in Toronto as a full-time voiceover artist.

He is also a conference speaker, having addressed audiences in Dublin, London, Paris, Oslo, Stockholm and Malta (including TEDx). Nails believes the Presenter is the most important part of any radio station because radio is a human form of communication. He is passionate about developing talent, realizing dreams and nurturing potential.

Matt launches and manages podcasts for businesses, entrepreneurs and performers through The Sound Off Podcast Network. A graduate of BCIT’s Broadcast Journalism program, Treena also volunteered with the program’s Professional Advisory Committee and served as its chair for four years.

JC Douglas

JC has been a Halifax media staple for nearly 40 years now, with 27 of them as an on-air host and PD at Q104, as well as Morning Host at C100, most recently fronting a Maritime-wide network show on MBS stations, “Afternoons With JC Douglas“. He proved he also had a face occasionally made for TV, with two years in the cast of the Halifax edition of Breakfast Television on CTV Atlantic, among his many on-camera roles over the years.
